Speakeasy Cafe
I love a café that keeps it simple but with quality coffee and baked goods. Speakeasy Café in Rutland is great for the passerby and local as it offers Wi-Fi, ample seating, as well as plenty of outlets for powering your devices. Right on one of the main streets (Center Street) in Rutland, the Speakeasy Café is convenient, and a great place to visit with ease. They serve Vermont Coffee Company here which is a great roaster, offering a large variety of blends. I had the Tres Blend which is a medium leaning dark roast that has great taste without the bitterness of other medium or dark roasts. Upon walking in you will probably see a few people working with their headphones on, meaning that Speakeasy does not rush you to “get out,” in fact, the atmosphere is quite welcoming and so are the baristas. The artwork and latte specials are also very cool and creative.
If you’re looking for something adventurous there’s the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center in town. As with most of Vermont, Rutland is surrounded by State Forest, the closest being Rutland City Forest. Mt. Killington is about ten miles to the east of Rutland and offers some challenging hikes in the summer months as well as great snowboarding and skiing in the winter months. For something a bit tamer you can enjoy Whipple Hollow Wildlife Management Area, which has some easier walks and hikes, still providing some beautiful scenery.
Overall, I would rate Speakeasy Café a 4.7 out of 5
